The Sekiu Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and the Clallam Bay WWTP began operation in 1977. Both WWTPs use rotating biological contactors (RBCs) for biological treatment and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection systems. Treated wastewater is discharged by outfalls to the bay.

Clallam Bay / Sekiu Sewer Advisory Committee

This volunteer committee provide a vital input to the County regarding rates, planning and other important sewer utility functions. Meetings are open to the public, please click the title above to view committee meeting schedule.

Collection System Repair & Replacement Project

The Clallam Bay-Sekiu Sewer System receives significant inflow/infiltration of water in the system which leads to regular sewage overflow events. During the development of the General Sewer and Wastewater Facilities Plan (PDF) in 2018, the County prioritized pipe repair and manhole replacement projects that should greatly reduce or eliminate these events. The County was selected to receive a $6.2 million grant/loan package from the Department of Ecology to complete the repair projects in 2020-2023. *UPDATE: The downtown Sekiu, Sekiu waterfront, and approximately 1000' of Snob Hill gravity pipe replacements have been completed.  The above grant has been closed out and new funding for the remaining portions of the I/I pipe replacements has been awarded by Department of Ecology Clean Water funding.  The draft funding offer was received 2/5/2025 and can be viewed here: State Fiscal Year 2026 Draft Water Quality Funding Offer List and Intended Use Plan

Pump Station Rehabilitation/Repairs

There are 7 pump stations in the collection systems.  All of the aging pump stations are original to the sewer system and have reached the end of their usable life.  Two have been repaired/rehabilitated including Sekiu Pump Station and Lighthouse Pump Station.

Two separate Opportunity Fund Grants has been awarded for repairs to three more pump stations including: Clallam Bay Pump Station, Middle Point Pump Station and Snob Hill Pump Station.  Work on these projects are expected to begin February 2026.
