Septic Permit & Inspection Info Available Online

Septic System permit and inspection information is available online through the Online Permit System also known as the Citizen Self Service (CSS) Portal (NEW in 2024!). This view into the new online permitting database allows all kinds of permit information to be more easily shared with the public.

Please be aware that Clallam County's Permitting Database experienced a major overhaul in 2024 and access to some online documents is still in transition.

All online data comes with the following disclaimer: Clallam County and its elected and appointed officers, employees, and agents do not warrant the accuracy, reliability, or timeliness of any information contained on this website. They shall not be held liable for any costs or losses of any kind caused by any reliance on such information. Portions of such information may be incorrect or not current.

If you find errors or outdated information in Clallam County's online permit information please contact the related department so it may be corrected.

Learn more about the New Permitting Portal and the permit records search process HERE with a demo video, FAQ's and user guides.  To begin your search select the "NEW" Permit Records Search option on the CSS page as outlined below.  The top menu Search link also goes to the same search location.Citizen Self Service Start Page

Image of Searching by Address or Parcel in CSSUse the Search field to enter a parcel, address or case number to return results.  When searching by address it will suggest autofill options but that is not limited to everything that is available.  Sometimes less is more and you will see a wider variety of records with a slightly more generalized address description.  The search result will be highlighted in the records returned for review.

You can filter results by Permit or Plan to narrow your search or remove the Exact Phrase check to broaden the search.  You are also able to export a list of your search results if needed.

Note the Type field for the name of the case record you are reviewing.  Septic permits have the case pre-fix of SEP or HSEP and soils information can be found as a plan under the prefix SIR, HOSR or HPSR.  Septic system inspection information will be found under the Septic Operations and Maintenance permit record with the SOM extension where the Issued Date = the last Inspection Date and the Expiration Date = when the next inspection is due.  Old system status reports pre 2009 may be found under the SAN case.  Screenshot examples below can be opened as PDF's for readability.

Take note of the case Status field to determine if the record in question is complete or still in progress.  Each permit record in blue text is a direct link to more details about that case record. Note that each link you select will open another tab on your browser so your original search results will not be lost.

Once a case record is open you will see additional tabs of information below the summary section.

The More Info tab displays case details about the record. Other addresses or parcel numbers related to the case will be found under the Location tab. Case documents like record drawings or system status reports are found under the Attachments tab.Image of SOM case More Info screen

Find Septic System Inspection Records

Most inspection records since 2009 have also been scanned into the permit database and are available by using Clallam County's Online Permit System. Septic System inspection records can be found under Permit Cases SAN(YEAR)-(5digit_case_number) or SOM(YEAR)-(5digit_case_number). When inspection dates are given under the Case Process Steps as System Inspected - Online, those records will also be found in a regional online inspection database called onlineRME used by professional O&M providers to report septic system inspections electronically. A link directly to those reports should also be available under the SOM case view of the Online Permit System but sometimes the number of links overflows into the text section below making it difficult to read.

Please Note:

As of 2021 the links to Homeowner DIY inspections reports must be accessed directly through the Septics 201 DIY users account once signed in and links to onlineRME inspection reports are not always available.  We recommend you access them there directly using the guidance shown below.
