Chief Don Wenzl began his career with Clallam County in August of 1998. Chief Wenzl worked as a Corrections Deputy until January of 2010 when he promoted to the rank of Sergeant. During his tenure as Correction Sergeant, he initiated and supervised the Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs (WASPC) 24/7 Sobriety Program for Clallam County. This program is nationally recognized to provide an alternative to incarceration and enable offenders to change self-defeating behaviors and stop re-offending. After assisting with the Corrections facility’s process to pass Accreditation in 2017, Chief Wenzl was appointed the Jail Accreditation Manager, and with the assistance of the other sergeants, the Corrections facility passed re-accreditation through the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.
Chief Corrections Deputy Don Wenzl, originally from Spokane Valley and a 1990 University High School graduate, moved to Port Angeles in 1997. He spent 13 years coaching his two daughters in soccer and still enjoys coaching at Storm King Athletic Club.
Chief Wenzl lives in the Port Angeles area with his wife, Brenda and their dog, Coco.
