Clallam County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Team
When CCEM activates in response to a disaster, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is staffed with a trained group of volunteers. Training is provided on the first and third Thursday of every month and while experience is valued, it’s not necessary to join our team. This team requires a significant investment of time and a dedication to becoming and integral part of the response effort to a wide variety of emergencies within the county. Clallam County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (CCARES)
Clallam County ARES is a network of volunteer amateur radio operators that provides backup emergency radio service to the County government and to other response agencies on the Peninsula. In addition to this vital communications link, ARES supports community events such as the North Olympic Discovery Marathon, college and community safety fairs, and the Clallam County Fair, with volunteers and equipment.
ARES works with the Clallam County Amateur Radio Club to promote amateur radio through training, weekly radio nets, radio license classes, and testing.
Monthly ARES meetings are held in the Emergency Operations Center located in the basement of the County Courthouse, 223 E 4th Street in Port Angeles, and at the City Hall in Forks. The meetings occur on the first Tuesday of the month and begin at 7 pm.
ARES operates under the auspices of the Sheriff's Emergency Management Unit, and ARES volunteers are also Clallam County Sheriff's Department volunteers. Membership information may be obtained at the monthly meeting or by emailing the ARES Emergency Coordinator, Glenn Beach.
Become an Amateur Radio Operator
The Clallam County Amateur Radio Club (CCARC) provides the necessary classes to become a Technician (Level1) a couple of times a year. A follow-up review and exam are given before licenses are awarded.
There is no cost for the class which is presented by volunteers from the Clallam County Amateur Radio Club. Students purchase the "Ham Radio License Manual Level I" or the ARRL General Class License Manual at a cost of $24.95. The session cost is $15. All classes are held at the Port Angeles Fire Department at 102 E 5th Street, Port Angeles, WA. Currently, there are no classes scheduled.
Check their website or send email to ask questions or register for classes, or to get more information about amateur radio operations and classes.
Clallam County Disaster Air Relief Team (CCDART)
CCDART is based on the California (Cal-DART) model. Enlisting and training volunteer general aviation pilots, aircraft and support staff will enable the ability to get people and supplies in and out of the area until military and other aircraft arrive in the predicted 2 to 4 weeks time following such a regional event.
