Biological condition ratings based on BIBI-100 scores from the Puget Sound Stream Benthos website. Details about scoring methods, based on stream invertebrate populations, are available at that site.

Summary statistic reported is generally from the latest sample at that site. However, when the latest sample diverged from the overall dataset, professional judgment was used.

Sites have been sampled sporadically, and in some cases the latest sample is very old; therefore, the ratings shown here may not reflect current conditions.

B-IBI ratings for larger streams (e.g., Dungeness, Morse, Hoko) are not well-established.

*"Impaired" calls: Per ECY draft Water Quality Policy 1-11, a site would be Impaired for Bioassessment if the average B-IBI score from the most recent two years with data is less than the 10th percentile of reference site scores for the associated EPA Level III Ecoregion. The threshold for WRIA 17-18 (Puget Lowland) would be 65 and for WRIA 19-20 (Coast Range) would be 62. The draft policy has a further qualification that the average of any pollutant-related biological index score (Hilsenhoff Biotic Index, Fine Sediment Index, Metals Tolerance Index, or in-development Thermal Tolerance Index) from the most recent two years with data is below the defined tolerance levels, or if not defined, below the 10th percentile of the index scores for the associated reference sites.
